The Creation of a PREDATOR

Started 8/6/04 - Finished 10/25/04

Predator Legs AVP Predator Suit: Ok I decided to try my hand at foam suits again and just before the movie Aliens vs. Predator comes out. I am doing this as fast as possible and with little to no time since the movie comes out in little over a week. These Legs were constructed in 2 days.
Predator Feet AVP Predator Feet: Well heres the Right foot of the Predator suit. All ready to have its raisers put on. Yep these feet will lift me about 2 inches up. It sucks being 5' 9" tall Predator when the original was 7' tall! LOL
Predator Body Suit AVP Predator Suit: Just a quick update on the progress of the suit. As you can see the upper body is getting there. Once I buy more materials I can finish it up in a week. Then I will get to the armor.
AVP Predator Suit CGI: This is a quick Photoshop paint over of the suit and what it may look like when I finish airbrushing it in real life.
AVP Predator Suit Nearing Completion: Well I'm almost done with the foam carving process Ive just got to add a few more things to it like the gauntlets, and arm armor as well as the shoulder cannon.
Predator Head Beginnings: I just started working on my predator face mask. It is made of all sorts of junk around my shop. An old slightly broken bike helmet I got from a junk sale and an old skull mask I made years ago from papermache and plaster bandages.
Predator Head Details: As you can see Ive bulked up the mask a bit and started the mandibles and outer skin layering. Foam is a strange substance and can be manipulated in so many shapes and forms. The shape of the head is a bit flat but it works for a Halloween costume :)
Predator Head Dreadlocks: Well Ive constructed the head finally. Its quite unusual to say the least but it works well with the suit. I've added lots of dreadlocks to it. These dreadlocks are made of insulation foam rope also known as "Backer Rod". I wish I knew of this material on my first suit because the dreadlocks on that one weighed a ton! The ones on this new suit weigh nothing at all. I still am going to install about 20 more dreads into this mask and then I will get to work on the gauntlets.
Predator Body Suit: Here is the suit nearing completion. I have yet to make the gauntlets and bicep armor as well as the Shoulder cannon. Also as you can probably noticed I am using my latex werewolf gloves with this suit :)
Predator Arm Gauntlets: Well heres the gauntlets. They are not movie accurate nor is my suit but thats where the creativity comes in. I thought the sides of the gauntlets needed some decoration so I went to work on designing a pattern and fancied them up a bit :)
Predator Shoulder Cannon: Ok now I've finally finished the Shoulder Cannon. Its taken many hours to just figure out a cool design and sore fingers cutting the foam away with scissors. But finally I have a neat look and a steady and solid cannon. Now for the paint job which is next :)
Predator Top Painted: After a few hours and a steady hand heres the airbrushing on my Predator suits top half
Predator Legs Painted: After a few more hours and a couple of really cold hands since its probably 60F out in my shop I can now say that my Predator Legs are finished.
Predator Feet Painted: These are the predator feet all painted and ready to have the 2" lifts put on.
Predator Hands Painted: These are the predator hands all painted and ready to have the breather holes punched into the fingertips. This will help my hands from sweating too much and also will help the sweat that does gather in the gloves to drain.
Predator Head Painted: Instead of going with the very bland looking AVP style look of the predators head I went more with a combination of Predator 1 and 2 with a touch of AVP. I made all the dreadlocks rings and gave them a silver and gold look.
Predator Neck Collar: Like with the Dreadlocks I used A poly foam backer rod for the collar. There is about 15 or so feet worth to make this collar and it is very comfortable. I used Velcro to fasten it on.
Predator Suit Complete: Well after many hours of gluing the fishing net to the body suit I am now finished. I'm gonna add a few skulls and some small greeblies to it. Greeblies is just a fancy word for things that look cool and aren't recognizable :)
Chest Burster: Well You cant have an AVP pred without a little Partner to come along so here is my Chestburster :)
You know when I went to the Street Fair all the people loved seeing the predator suit. I loved it too. The kids just were in awe and some played as if they were Arnold from Predator 1. It was funny as heck and I enjoyed it thoroughly. You know for the past 4 years that I have been making creature suits and coming out in public wearing them and playing around, I have found that the biggest reward from it is seeing the looks on all the peoples faces and even the kids. =)

AVP Predator Spear 2005

Functional Spear: Yep you read it right. I have made a functional spear from the Predator 2 movie. It was too cool a project to pass up so I had to build it. I know its mixing movies but it still looks cool. I wont say what Its made of or how I made it. I will say that it took me a bit of brainstorming to figure it out. Here are some other pictures of it [ Pic 1 - Pic 2 - Pic 3 ]
